ABOUT ME

A unique bridalwear sevice in North Yorkshire.

My name is Faye and I am a bridalwear maker and designer based in my little studio in North Yorkshire.

I began my sewing career after studying Fashion Design at University as a mature student. Working in PR and Marketing just wasn’t doing it for me anymore. During my studies, I found myself rather envious of the work created by the Costume Design students. The garments were so well made and required real skill the create them. I’d always loved history too so I was fascinated. I decided then that perhaps historical costume making was really the direction I should be going in. I wanted more than anything to become a sewing expert. Garment construction really is a work of art. My philosophy is, anyone can design but not everyone can make. Often we celebrate the designer but not the maker. Both deserve equal recognition.

After deciding on this new direction, I then studied theatrical costume making at The Northern College of Costume in York. Oh, it was wonderful! 16 weeks of purely practical costume construction. I was in heaven. I leaned so much and on completion I felt like I could make anything. I’d found my calling. The course immediately opened doors for me, given its reputation in the industry. Within a matter of weeks I was making costumes for my first film production, Da Vinci’s Demons. It was incredibly hard work, with 12 hour-days the norm. However, when you’re doing something you love the time doesn’t matter.

I have since worked in both theatre and television, locally and nationally, making garments for pantomime Dames and frock coats for the Amazon TV show ‘Outlander’.  I have also worked on film sets dressing actors and monitoring continuity.

So, why bridalwear? Well to be honest, who doesn’t love a luxurious, glamorous, sumptuous wedding gown? I'm in an exciting position where designing and making the dress of your dreams would be an absolute privilege as well as incredibly enjoyable. It gives me an enormous sense of satisfaction to see a bride in one of my gowns, knowing that I played such an important part in their big day.

I’m so thankful I was able to find a profession that connects two of my lifelong passions: sewing and costume. My bridal style is rooted in a deep and passionate commitment to excellence, luxury and the unique.  I decided to turn my passion into a reality by joining the bridalwear industry as a skilled professional.

Please do get in touch if you are looking for a completely bespoke and professionally made bridal gown, which will be designed and constructed using traditional sewing techniques as part of my one-to-one bridal service.

Thank you

Faye Clements
